After many summer visits to Centennial Beach, we know it ranks among BC’s best coastal spots for day trips. The expansive beach path stretches for miles with brilliant ocean views, and Four Winds Beach House and Brewery serves excellent craft beer and upscale pub fare on its coastal patio.

Beach Activities and Water Sports

When you’re planning your beach day at Centennial Beach, get in the water during the swimming season from late June through early September. The shallow waters here stay noticeably warmer than most Lower Mainland beaches. If you fancy some adventure, grab a kayak or paddleboard and explore the tidal flats when the tide is out, where you can wander for 30 minutes in each direction across the sandy landscape. Spend time with a kite surfer and make use of the beach volleyball courts at Sullivan Point, or spend hours building sandcastles at low tide when the wet sand is just right for shaping.
Wildlife Watching and Nature Exploration
Wildlife watching at Centennial Beach offers something special, particularly along the Boundary Bay shoreline, where coastal marshes create vital stopover points for migrating birds. You’ll see herons, eagles, and various shorebird species throughout the year, though migration seasons from April through October bring your best viewing opportunities. Harbour seals and their pups frequently surface near the pier during the summer months. Walking or cycling the Boundary Bay Dyke Trail rewards you with excellent birdwatching spots and opportunities to spot owls and hawks hunting in the open fields. The Raptor Trail provides additional birdwatching that complements your main beach visits perfectly.

Scenic Walks and Cycling Trails

Looking for a peaceful oceanfront walk or an energizing bike ride? The Boundary Bay area offers coastal trails that bring gorgeous seaside views straight to you. The 12 Avenue Dyke Trail offers spectacular ocean vistas and stretches for 17 kilometres along the northern shore of Boundary Bay.
Our favourite local paths:
- Boundary Bay Dyke Trail: Take the full route or shorter sections for unbeatable waterfront scenery
- The Dune Trail Loop: Try this short interpretive walk to learn about the sensitive dune habitat
- The Savannah Trail: Explore old fields and open areas perfect for spotting raptors
Dining and Local Treats

After working up an appetite on those coastal trails, you’ll want to experience what makes the local food scene so inviting. We suggest starting at Four Winds Beach House and Brewery, where their upscale pub fare and award-winning craft ales taste incredible as you watch the sunset from their oceanside patio. For the perfect beach day treat, pick up gelato from a nearby ice cream shop or choose from the selection at Mario’s Kitchen and Gracie’s Next Door, which offer extensive menus and live music on weekends. Picnic options include grabbing fresh food from local cafes before heading to the beach to dine with a view.
Family-Friendly Fun on the Sand

After refuelling with good food, you’re ready to enjoy beach time with your children. Centennial Beach gives your family plenty of ways to have fun, and we know exactly where to go for the best experience. The large wheelchair-accessible playground near the concession stand keeps kids entertained for hours.
Our local tips for sandy activities:
- Create amazing sandcastles when the tide is low, using the wet sand near the shore
- Use the picnic areas and covered shelters scattered throughout the park
- Keep children safe whilst swimming by always keeping them close and being mindful of your child’s level of swimming ability
