Craft Cafe

Craft Cafe has been a neighbourhood favourite in New Westminster since 2014, known for small-batch espresso and a warm, creative atmosphere that draws neighbours, students and office workers alike. The café occupies a cosy 1,100 square feet on Columbia Street, with big windows, long communal tables and room for about 40 guests. What sets Craft Cafe apart is a clear focus on craft: they roast single-origin beans in-house on a 5 kg roaster and rotate four seasonal pours every week.

Stop in for expertly pulled espresso, or try one of their signature drinks like the Cardamom Maple Latte or the Vancouver Fog, both house recipes that regulars recommend. The pastry case changes daily and features items from local bakers such as sourdough croissants from Annex Bakeshop and gluten-friendly squares made on-site. Cold brew is available in 1-litre takeaway bottles, and they sell bags of their roast by weight with tasting notes printed on every bag. They also host weekly cupping sessions and a monthly latte-art workshop, limited to eight participants to keep things hands-on.

The team at Craft Cafe are practical coffee people, not just baristas. Owner and head roaster Maya Chen trained at the Pacific Coffee Lab and has 10 years of roasting experience. Staff are trained in grinder calibration, espresso extraction and pour-over technique, so your flat white tastes the same from morning rush to afternoon lull. Service is friendly and efficient, and there’s reliable Wi-Fi and several powered outlets for people working between meetings.

Locals choose Craft Cafe because it feels like a living part of the community — they partner with the New West Farmers Market for produce swaps, sponsor local poetry nights and offer a student discount on weekdays.
